My first job in the industry was for Animal Logic on Harry Potter 7. Animal Logic was responsible for the stereo conversion of the film through an effective method of animation and rotoscoping. As an animator, my job was to mimic the action on the plates with scanned and rigged models of the characters and sets (examples of this can be seen in my show reel).
Because comp was taking the z depth information from my animation, every character and prop had to be in the correct position relative to one another to accurately portray the depth that would be there had it been filmed in 3d. By using 3D models to get this depth information, characters came out looking a lot rounder and smoother than if had they just been rotoscoped. This also meant however that the animation had to be extremely precise even to the point of opening and closing characters mouths to portray the depth inside.
Because of this extra attention to detail the film's stereo effect looked fantastic. It was a joy to watch with people asking me what I had to do for the company as they were under the impression it was filmed in 3D. Unfortunately due to limited credit space, the individuals at Animal Logic weren't listed at the end of the film. Animal Logic has however been kind enough to put up a credit listing on their web site. Below is the image they've put up giving credit to all of us that worked on the film:
Working for Animal Logic was a lot of fun and to see this is an extra nice reward and reminder that they've appreciated the effort we put it.
